Directing and Producing for Orchestras and Artists.

Live visual reinforcement or IMAG for classical music concerts, has a reputation for distracting from the music. The cause of frustration occurs when entrances are missed and cameras are jerky or caught in motion. These problems are due to directors who have little or no experience with classical music, or who were not allowed adequate rehearsal time due to budget limitations. Another problem is that orchestras often seek a video company before finding a video director that is familiar with classical music. While many video companies may have had years of professional experience, directing many different types of musical event, it's safe to guess that most have never worked with a symphony orchestra. Live video for classical music is new territory and directors that specialize in classical music are rare.

When we arrive to the first rehearsal, we have already prepared a score and rehearsed our camera cues with our own score reader. We've also been in touch with the camera crew and provided them with as much visual information as possible to understand the layout of the orchestra.

Video Designs and Environments

Designing an environment for classical music can be as complicated as producing animation or as simple as digital motion graphics. Video design can be choreographed to a specific composition, or it can be incorporated between live shots of the orchestra for concerts like Pops or Specials. Preparing a design concept can take from two months to two years.

Projection equipment and software have improved exponentially in the past ten years. So much more is available and affordable now than before. The options are endless! Don’t assume that visual design is out of your reach.
